Lots a Spots...Olorotitan update

It's a lotta spots to paint, but that's cool. Spotted dinosaurs are fun!
I'm another day into painting him and already thinking about a pattern for the Parasaurolophus and Lambeosaurus I plan on sculpting next.
I also want to do something that is not a dinosaur. I do love the Gorgonopsids. Maybe I will try one of those at some point.
Anyway, another update showing this Olorotitan's progress. More soon:)

Painting the Olorotitan model

I've gotten around to my favorite part of this process...texturing:) Right now I'm just blocking in color and pattern, later he will need other maps to make him realistic and tie it all together.
I prefer dinosaurs that are colored boldly. I love coming up with different designs for the animals and because nature is bold and colorful (and drab too) anything is plausible. That's the fun of it, this animal really existed, but I still get to make up things like color. Plus, I like them to be different than what everyone is used to seeing. Grey dinosaurs are so last year:)
I still have a long way to go, more later...

Detailing the Olorotitan and other WIPs

I've been at work detailing this model. This Olorotitan is an older, adult bull. He's been around the block a few times and is no pushover. So he has the bite marks and scars to proove it. I'm going to move on to making the other maps for him and add details as I go along, but this is where I am at.
Also still working on my Stegosaur painting. I still have a long way to go, but its heading in the right direction. I'm blocking in the steg, getting his pattern and colors the way I want them before I tie him in with the background. Right now he stands out way to much.
More updates soon...

Olorotitan detailing

Now that I have the base mesh done, I'm starting to add details like scutes, scratches and will also get some scales on there asap. Then I get to paint him! My favorite part:)

Olorotitan WIP

Started to refine the model even more. Now I'm paying attention to the skull, the crest and the general anatomy. I'm adding in more folds of skin and trying to get the base mesh most of the way there before starting the scales and fine details.

Olorotitan WIP

Got to work on this a little more after work tonight. I've added more muscle definition and have started sculpting in the main wrinkles. With wrinkles, you always want to punch them a little more than you think you should because when you start adding details like scales it will wipe it out.
I need to work more of the crest and face and get to some other things before I start the other details, but he is getting there;)

One more update

Thought I would finish up tonight with one more update on this guy. I've been sculpting the rear muscles on the legs and such, adjusted the frill to look interesting and did more minor tweaks.
I still have some more to go on the base model before I start all the cool stuff. Anyway, why am I always sculpting hadrosaurs? LOL! I guess because they are the best dinosaurs;)
Have a good night

Color Design
While I've been on the project "Reign of the Dinosaurs" I've had the opportunity to create a lot of color designs and found that I really love painting interesting patterns for dinosaurs.
This is something I've done for a dinosaur I am making for my own portfolio (its not for Reign). I love hadrosaurs and have chosen the beautiful species Orolotitan to model and paint.
I went with some nice color pattern to accent the head, possibly this is a male and his colors are meant for display purposes. He also has a piebald spotted pattern for the rest of him. Something I've noticed lacking in a lot of dinosaur design is spotted and piebald patterning. Many people like to use vertical stripes on their dinosaurs so I figured this would be a unique take on dinosaur color.
I'll be trying to model this guy and paint him soon:) Enjoy!

Edmontosaurs Model

Edmontosaurus is one of my fav dinos. How awesome is this guy?
I'm uploading him to Shapeways along with the Gryposaurus. I've ordered both models first to make sure they are indeed printable. Sometimes they slip thru Shapeways testing phase and I have to fix them.
Anyway, they will both be available ASAP, along with some others. AND I will be selling the models I get and paint:-) So look for those on my Ebay store in the future. I'll of course post them here first.
Cheers!

Painted figure

Alrighty, got to paint up one of my figures (Brachylophosaurus) that was printed from my CGI model. And here she is:) I was happy with how it turned out and plan on putting her in a diorama. I'm pretty sure she is screaming at a Tyrannosaur...telling him where to stick it :-D

New Paleoart Piece

I enjoy Paleontology and painting prehistoric animals. This is my newest Paleoart painting. It depicts a hadrosaur called Edmontosaurus walking through colorful flowers, similar to my Chasmosaurus painting I did.
Since dinosaur coloring is not known, I chose tans and yellows with a beautiful blue head and tail for this dinosaur to compliment the oranges and yellows of the flowers.
Hadrosaurs, or "duckbills", are my favorite type of dinosaur so I likely be painting more of them!
