I've been a little absent lately, due to working on a lot of things. My art sales are doing well and for that I am very happy.
I was excited to have my fine art Paleoart picked up by Dan's Dinosaurs so if you would like some paleo wildlife art for your wall...:-)
I've been able to work some on my dinos in the middle of all this other stuff, here is just a simple render of the Brachy. A lot could be better, but for now it is fine. Plus, my computer is going to start hating me more if I ask it to do anymore detail:-)
I'll try and get more posts up here and I still have some work to do for Art Evolved, ahh!
Alright guys, thanks for checking in and all your comments. I really appreciate it all!

Congratulations with your recent success, Angie! Your Brachylophosaur looks great - especially his head. Very detailed. Great work!
Thanks ever so much Peter:) Glad you like the brachy!
I follow on that congrats for making a living with the art... if I had more talent I'd be envious, but of course there is the reason ppl pay you and not me ;P
Love the Brachy...
But of course this love has prompted a bunch of questions... like usual ;)
I've been researching direct 3D painting softwares, and am narrowing in on one to purchase next year. If I've been following right, you use the 3D paint plugin for Photoshop yes?
I'm current stuck between the photoshop plugin and mudbox. However mudbox has better online tutorials and demos of its capabilities then the 3D paint (the photshop one is a video of just painting some simple and pathetic red lines on a 3D T-Rex... which I can already do!!!).
Does 3D paint allow for simultaneous colour painting and 3D manipulation? In mudbox there is the capacity to not only spray paint colour onto your model, but it also "sprays" on or off additional 3D surface to your object (like spraying on or off clay if that makes sense). So with a Dino you can spray on actual 3D scales that stick out from the model (more so then bump mapping) and are coloured for you at the same time!
Does the photoshop plugin do this too?
I'd be much more interested in the photoshop plugin if it is close to Mudbox, as I want to upgrade to photoshop anyways. Mudbox is its own 3D software, and is priced as such additionally :( ...
thanks
Very nice work and congratulations!
Hi Rebecca! Thank you, I think your work is wonderful:) Many thanks for dropping by and saying hi!
Of course, no problem with the questions Traumador:) and thanks for your well wishes:)
I use Deep Paint 3D for painting, I think it has a PS plugin, but I don't use that. I can open my Lightwave model driectly into DP3D as LW is supported. It has a plugin for LW, but for some reason it gets kind of buggy on me so I just open the model up in DP.
Yes, with DP you can paint multiple maps across the model at the same time. So I can paint Color, Bump and Shine at the same time or seperately. I can also paint in "Projection" mode which gets rid of the seams and lets me paint a seamless map.
DP however doesn't paint displacement mapping (which is what you are talking about...the "bump" map that actually displaces the model mesh). That takes some heavy meshes to do and a lot of polygons (my computer won't take the pressure of a heavy mesh like that), so I just stick with bump. ZBrush seems to be all the rage for this type of thing.
So in DP3D I can rotate the model, view the actual maps in 2D or 3D on the model, paint across the model in all channels (bump, color, etc.), it has various presets (charcoal, acrylic, oil, patterns, etc.) or I can scan and load my own maps to paint.
When done I save the maps and load them onto the model back in LW, manipulate the maps to get it to look as awesome as possible (lower the bump, tweak it or whatever).
Also, I use Atlas mapping in LW, to break up the model, apply it to the model and then paint it.
I've never used Mudbox, but if it is similar to Zbrush then that means it is badass and that would be my choice. I would go onto Zbrush or bodypaint or something if I had the $ to spend, but these programs cost a lot (as you know!) so I just stick with my little Lightwave and DP for now.
If you do purchase one, you will be VERY happy. To me, it is the only way to go as far as texturing. Just load it up and paint. Done. Very artist friendly!
I look forward to seeing what you do with it, and no problem with questions! ask away:) I'll answer as soon as I can, besides your models are awesome and they are going to be killer with a paint package!!!
Cheers friend! :)
